Just Watch!

“May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!’”
That is something I think we all do this time of year. There is so much going on and so many things to gather our attention. This season of the year though our thoughts should turn to the eternal. When we can see so much around us that is passing the mind can become saturated and soggy. This season of Advent then is our chance to take our focus out of the world and put it towards God. Indeed as we spend time preparing for the Great Feast of Christmas our focus should be not merely our preparation for those moments of gift giving but on the reason gifts are given. Jesus indeed is coming again. In his day all people will find justice and peace. We are the agents of his coming. Only when all people of the world are ready to receive him will our Lord Come Again. When that will be is known only to God, but each one of us is called into contemplative action to know our part in welcoming Jesus again. So let us not be asleep but vigilant in our time of renewal. If we have sinned let us seek out the Sacrament of Reconciliation. If we have not spent time in prayer (Apart from Sunday Mass of course) then choose a time to pray with your family. Open an Advent Calendar to remind yourself that Jesus is coming again. There are many ways to remain vigilant, choose one and do it so that we are alert and active until the Lord should come again!
Peace, and a Blessed Advent
