A Happy Accident

A couple weeks ago I had two strands of rather long scrap sitting around and I just started playing with them to see if I could figure out a new knot combination. That’s sort of how the two-twine and ladder-Rosary knot ideas came about.
The end result was a two-twine Rosary bracelet with five knots in one color and five in another.
To be honest, I’m not completely sure how I did it! But what I think happened is that I took the two scraps and folded them both in half, linking them together where I folded them (see the bottom picture to the right).
Next, I made a knot in one color using both ends of the same color at once. It is sort of like how you’d make a center-piece knot on a regular Rosary.
I then did the same step with the other color of twine. Now the two pieces of twine were joined by loops from each piece.
I then made three more knots on each color of twine, so each color now had four knots each.
Lastly, I made a combination centerpiece and Our Father knot to join the two strands together again. This is the center picture to the right. Notice how the loops are made up of two strands from each of the twine pieces.
I realize this is probably one of the worst descriptions I’ve ever written up, and if you’ve never made a Rosary before then you probably have no idea what I’m talking about. But in the end, it turned out to be a neat looking Rosary bracelet, albeit I couldn’t figure out where or how to add a Crucifix.
Anyway, it was a happy accident and a fun little diversion. Pax Christi!

:::lightbulb goes off in head:::
Greg, you just gave me a great idea for a new knotted cord rosary using this concept!! Thanks!
This is very interesting. It would be neat to see if you could make it to where they can be adjustable to fit different sizes. God has given you a new idea and you ran with it and see what happened. An AWESOME bracelet. My pryers are with you.
You could add a cruicifix on one of the loops that are connecting the two colors, if you messed with a jump ring a little bit, I think. It’d be awesome to do a rosary with every decade in a different color using this method!!!!
hey there, really liked this blog post! Well written. Thank you.
